February 01, 2008
- China's MII (Ministry of Information Industry) has issued the first batch of access licenses to vendors, allowing their 3G mobile phones to operate on China's homegrown TD-SCDMA technology. Successful applicants include ZTE, Hisense, LG, Samsung, Lenovo, and Postcom. The ministry plans to issue more licenses in the future, Sohu News reported. This implies that TD-SCDMA is ready to begin commercialization.

- TD Tech - a joint venture between Nokia Siemens Networks and Huawei Technologies - has announced that it will spin off its marketing, sales and service services, in order to focus on R&D operations, Nikkei Electronics Asia reported. According to the new agreement reached by the two parent companies, TD-Tech will develop radio access products for both companies' TD-SCDMA devices.
